Larian Studios Announce a New Divinity, Labeling it Their Most Ambitious RPG Yet

The anticipation surrounding The Game Awards was significant, particularly after host Geoff Keighley shared a puzzling photo of a desert monolith. The question is finally answered. Larian Studios is working on a brand-new Divinity game.

Revealed to be Divinity, the game was debuted with a audacious trailer that included intense imagery, from a burning man to an orgy and the very unleashing of hell.

Moving Beyond Original Sin

Anyone expecting Divinity Original Sin 3, that is not happening. Larian warned that a third Original Sin game to its beloved RPGs is not on the cards right now.

However, the developer described this new Divinity as a next chapter of the core franchise. This choice of words hints that the team is likely designing a more action-oriented experience as opposed to another turn-based title. At this moment, we can only guess, as only a teaser video is available.

The Legacy of Divinity

The Divinity series is universally respected and it's fair to claim it sparked the recent resurgence of crunchy computer role-playing games. These games are defined by detailed worlds, choice-driven narratives, and complex character building—traits that later were perfected in games like Baldur's Gate 3.

While its universe is traditional swords and sorcery, what makes Divinity apart is the remarkable agency bestowed upon the player.

In contrast to modern RPGs have streamlined options, Divinity is full of niche playthroughs you can achieve with a distinct build with a personal story.

The series is also famously open-ended, letting players to experiment both in story and combat. Nearly every quest can be approached in a variety of manners, often in lateral fashion.

  • You might solve a puzzle because you remembered something a dog told you.
  • Or, you could bypass a challenge by using the world itself in a unorthodox way.

The Journey Continues

It is these creative systems that lead fans and critics to label games like Divinity Original Sin 2 as a top-tier role-playing games of all time. Now, the RPG community can look forward to a new entry in this legendary franchise.
