A defense official has revealed that the Ministry of Defence is actively examining the possible security risks posed by Chinese-made vehicles, and personnel have been instructed to refrain from talking about secret matters in any cars.
Safety Guidance for MoD Personnel
In a recent appearance on a radio station, Luke Pollard commented on reports that MoD staff have been told not to discuss secret material while riding in China-made cars.
He stated that the MoD is “examining” Chinese vehicles within its fleets, however emphasised that safety is a issue in all contemporary vehicles.
We have a collection of tens of thousands of vehicles in the Ministry of Defence and those vehicles account for a tiny fraction.
But whether you’re driving a Chinese car or a car from another country, our instruction to our people is not to plug Ministry of Defence devices into their vehicle, not to have conversations at a secret classification in any kind of car, because of the increasing threats of eavesdropping that are present in all automobile, to only have those confidential talks in protected areas. This is a wise and reasonable thing for everyone worried about security.
After it was put to him that it would be wise for the ministry to cease using every cars from China, Pollard replied: That is exactly what we are looking into at the present time.”
