Around 50 automobiles have been covered with what seems to be human blood in the German municipality of Hanau close to Frankfurt, as reported by police.
Automobiles, walls and postal boxes were vandalized, occasionally with Nazi symbols, they announced in a official communication.
Police state they were alerted late on Wednesday evening, when a man noticed that a car in the Lamboy neighborhood of Hanau had been marked with a red-colored fluid.
The substance had been drawn in the form of a banned symbol, they reported.
Officers then discovered many other vandalized cars and building exteriors in the nearby vicinity.
These symbols are illegal in Germany under legislation outlawing the public display of Nazi-era symbols.
Officials report preliminary tests show the fluid was probably human bodily fluid.
"There is still no lead as to where it came from; authorities are currently not aware of any physical harm in relation with the event," they added.
Local authorities said they were trying "to unravel the case" and have requested to the public for information.
An important representative said the vandalism rendered him without words and needed to be solved quickly.
"This act strikes at the center of Hanau and reopens the wounds of the right-wing terrorist attack half a decade ago," he posted on a platform, mentioning the killing of nine victims by a shooter aiming at individuals of foreign heritage in February 2020.
